Our seminar this time was about Literary Travel Quotes, at first i didn’t think much of it and thought it would just be a discussion of how the background of the author connects to what he wrote or some generic stuff like that, but i was completely mistaken.
This seminar was really fun but also complicated, it wasn’t just a discussion of the author’s writing skills but looking at the author’s view on life. I’d like to share my thoughts through points we talked about.
During the discussion of “Between starting a journey and continuing a journey which one is harder and more important”, I had this argument in favor of continuing a journey being more important. Travel needs ambition and purpose it gives you that fighting spirit to commit to your journey knowing there’s an end goal that you can work towards, so “Would you still continue the journey even if you couldn’t see a clear finish line?” Starting the journey, you can see the goal you want to work towards and gets you fired up to begin, Terry gave an example of “it’s easier to start going to the gym than going to the gym multiple times”.
Without the fighting spirit how would you get through the hardships along the path you take? Without being able to see the end how could you make sure you don’t give up half-way? It’s like doing a 5 minute plank without being able to see the clock, you are forced to give it everything you have and hope it’s enough. This was my counter argument against the people saying that at the end of a journey there will be a prize or benefit, most people don’t put in effort for the process but for the results, it’s the working process that builds you as a person not what you get at the end.
Next seminar I think having three leaders I kind of a waste, during this only seminar only Grace was speaking while the other 2 couldn’t talk that much I think it’s better to just have 1 leader who controls everything. Also, I think the leader/ leaders should encourage more people to speak and call on them, check more with the teacher for speaking times.
