Seminar reflection 5
The ELL mmys
- In this seminar, we looked back at our past being inside ELL and the things we went through by an award ceremony from the leaders. Such as the most likely to fall asleep during SA, the person that has the most hidden talent etc. All these leads us back to review what we have done and learnt during 6-8th grade.
- This is one of the most fun seminars I’ve been through, the seminar I spoke the most times but also the most controversial seminar.
- In this seminar, there are many to talk about, but it is a lot harder to make a strong point and get a high. Most of the time, we stay at stating or agreeing a statement and uses examples to prove what we think. But we kind of lack the definition and how we define some of the terms inside. Also we miss some arguments from the pro and con side to prove our statement, we only state from the pro side but not the con, which causes our statement to be thin and weak sometimes. And it feels like sometimes nobody is making a clear point.
- After some of the nice questions with everyone answering normally, it kind of changes to another side of what it is really meant to be. Some controversy statements are okay such as the ones about our 6th grade ELL teacher which we agreed that even though sometimes he could be scary and serious, but he is a kind and responsible person which is a great English teacher overall. But some of the other discussions kind of change to bulling, such as complementing on other’s appearance, if they are ugly or not. These are not supposed to be showing inside a seminar, this is something that should be kept inside the heart and the mind. And whatever we are discussing, don’t show any case of connection to those complements, they don’t even matter and doesn’t count as any evidence. Some were close, but not really directly mentioned. But direct insults should not be mentioned.
- As for the leaders, I feel that they did a great job on maintaining the order of the seminar and did stop some comments going out. Also picking those who are quiet to speak. They also did a great design on the PPT and this seminar, which shaped this fun and easy seminar.
