I really enjoyed Tania & Jessie’s approach to a new way of seminar– which is something similar to role-playing. We get to see different people’s ideas when visiting Chernobyl, a cite of dark tourism, and it’s interesting to find the plot progressing as the seminar continues. It’s interesting how this format made me think more deeply. Instead of just memorizing facts, we all had to imagine being in someone else’s shoes(as a visitor, social media user, etc. ). It made me realize that places like Chernobyl aren’t just abandoned sites—they have real stories and emotions connected to them.
I think it’s okay for people to visit dark tourism sites, as long as they learn about the history and show respect. Places like Chernobyl, war memorials, or former prisons aren’t just “scary” or “cool” locations—they have real meaning to the people affected by them. If visitors can take the time to understand what happened and why these places matter, then dark tourism can be a way to honor history and share information instead of just treating it like entertainment.
