This week we discussed the famous saying, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” This sparked a lively debate about whether travelers should always follow local customs or if itβs okay to stick to their own ways.
Some students argued that respecting traditions is important because it shows kindness to the host culture. They gave examples like removing shoes/wearing or taking off specific clothing before entering a mosque or dressing modestly in religious places. Others disagreed, saying that not all customs may align with a travelerβs personal beliefs, and itβs okay to politely decline certain practices.
What I learned is that there isnβt only one right answerβit depends on the situation. Being open-minded and considerate matters more than blindly following every tradition. Next time, I might try to prepare more examples.
Overall, it was a thought-provoking seminar, and I enjoyed hearing different viewpoints. It made me realize that traveling isnβt just about seeing new placesβitβs also about learning how to respect others while staying true to yourself. π
Nice! Remember that ‘it depends’ as you go through high school and university π
A clearer or more attractive title would be better.
