1. Performance in the seminar
The theme of this discussion session was about what makes a good blog posts. Based on the blog post presented in the leader’s PPT, we identified the topic (such as the image) and conducted discussions. The entire discussion was roughly divided into four parts. My performance in this session was quite good. I achieved scores of seven and eight, and also gained three high.
2. The leaders’ way of managing the seminar
This time, me and Shell are leaders , and the result was quite good. We made preparations and completed the PPT, we adopted a discussion format where we identified the main topic and freely expressed personal opinions. The open-ended answering mode allowed everyone to fully express their thoughts. At the same time, we set rules, with each person’s speaking time limit being no more than 30 seconds per turn, and everyone took turns to speak. Moreover, the speaking start position would be changed in each round. The first round started from the right side, and the next round began from the left side, ensuring that everyone had an equal opportunity to speak.
3. The content discussed: what did you learn about what makes a good blog post?
Firstly, we discussed the role of decorative elements such as images and emojis . We found that some emojis might cause misunderstandings among readers, while images enable readers to delve deeper into the topic of the article. At the same time, we also explored the safety issues related to images and investigated whether to include the author’s own photo in the article. Finally, we concluded that whether to include personal photos depends on the author’s creative intention. If the article focuses on recording personal travel experiences, then including the author’s photo is acceptable; if the article mainly introduces the attractions themselves, then adding personal images is not necessary.
Then, we held a small debate on the topic of which part is more important, visual content or textual content. Most people held the view that the two need to be balanced. Visual content can attract readers to click on the blog article first, while the textual content then provides the information for the readers.
Then we discussed the English grammar proficiency and the role that the comment section plays in blog posts. Regarding the grammar aspect, I presented my views: If one skip-read through the blog, minor grammar errors are generally not noticed . As long as they do not affect the normal reading, they don’t have much impact. Moreover, we can easily correct grammar mistakes with the help of AI tools.
When it comes to the value of the comment section, I believe it can serve as a communication channel between the author and the readers. It can also inspire new creative ideas. Moreover, high-quality and lengthy comments can attract more people to read this blog article.
Overall, it’s good ✅
