The website seems vulnerable, is wordpress just way too old?????? Btw tags feature is kinda broken and you don’t get feedback when selecting a tag, hope it gets fixed.
Homer’s The Odyssey is an ancient Greek epic poem that follows the Greek hero Odysseus on his dangerous 10-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War.
It is a very interesting book, in class we discussed about the book’s 10 themes:
- Reason, logo and thought
- Hierarchy, the heroic
- Noos and Thymos – Logic and emotions
- Nostos (Homecoming) – The feeling of wanting to return home
- Divine human interaction
- Apollonian/Dionysian – Peace/Chaos
- Intergenerational Relationships
- Marriage – Special Bonds
- Suffering
- Oiko, Polis, the society – Oikos = home/family order
Polis = community/social order
The greek word psychΔ means soul, spirit, life, or butterfly. It seems like Greek’s interpretation of the human body and how humans interact with the nature. This word is crucial to understanding the author’s aim and what its trying to convey.
These themes help us understand what The Odyssey says about human life, Greek values, and society.
It is amazing to see how each of these themes connect to Odysseus’ ultimate journey back to Ithaca and the development of this complex character.
Just my thoughts on this book and I will bring updates to this post, or a series.
