Reflection on First Seminar about Travel Quotes

English

  • In this seminar, our class discussed about the questions of travel, focusing on mainly what’s the point of traveling, and also discussions about stages of traveling. Specifically , the questions of wither starting the travel is easier or persevering travel is easier and that if we are going to be dead, then what’s the point of traveling, and what kept people from traveling and exploring more of this world.
  • Personally for my own performance, since I am not a leader in this seminar, I think for the two days of seminar, I did just okay. But I didn’t get any highs. I conclude that to my problem with interpreting the quotes well and being able to connect them together then with the book.
  • Especially on the first day (We had tow classes), I didn’t do really much preparation, such as not being able to look at all the quotes and understand the meaning of them, as well as the surface meanings and the philosophical meanings. So I had many opportunities wasted by saying some random thing that turned out to be no use to my grade. I may have to take some time on each question, looking at the quotes, making marks that these are ones I could use, then choose some to speak about. I think this could give me a bigger probability to hit a high. Another thing that I think I always miss in the seminar is the So What part, because I seem to know what I want to say and have listed out the evidence, but I couldn’t  say a conclusion or a something that I can get from my analysis.
  • In this seminar , we mainly got down to these points: 1. That travel is not only physically traveling but also inner transformation, such as through time, through growth. 2. These travels, sometimes don’t need some big goal, what is important is to start this travel, which most of us agreed about that happens most of the time (except some examples of gym exercise ), that travel requires people to step into uncertainty or out of their comfort zone. 3. Travels don’t need some big ending, or achievement, because travel itself is an experiment, and the things that we hear and feel along the way is what is important and is what that impacts us. And even though some roads lead to nowhere or is meatless, the act of travel itself gives meaning to it. 4. Traveling is because that people have curiosity, since there is no way to stop from being dead(At least now), traveling is all that we could do to see more to feel more, and to give more means to our life. We travel for filling ourselves and finding means.
