BIG Announcement regarding” I am gay”event

Regarding the seriousness of “I am gay”part1and2, my post is here to inform everyone and to raise awareness about some dangerous issues.

Yesterday I saw two posts ““I am gay”part1and2 posted by the account Eric yin. It is about some serious confessions of being gay. There are even some supportive comments. This account normally post contents for ELLA homework for assignments. Surprisingly the account’s profile intro has also being changed. Today, these posts are deleted due to irrelevance of academic discussions. Or is it?

As all of you mushroom users know, mushroom is a forum for free discussions, Dr.terret won’t randomly delete someone’s serious confessions about their sexuality. Cuz it’s brave. If this post was deleted, there’s only one reason for this. The post is all fake. It is not posted by Eric himself, it’s posted by someone else. But we can’t determine this if Eric didn’t come out to explain. If you see this post, pls comment.

Also, making fun of sexualities and pranking others are absolutely NOT acceptable. It’s a sensitive topic though I have to admit being gay is totally normal. According to one friend of mine, jokes about mocking others by saying they are gay is not funny at all. It shows disrespectfulness towards gay people, for the one who posted this probably just for fun, l warn you that you are being unethical and you need to reflect on your behavior.

Now I have to remind you guys, change your password immediately to prevent similar events like that yesterday. Dr. T, hope you can tell everyone about this. Lastly, I had to say that pranking is not funny anymore when you impersonate someone else to post contents. You COULD be punished if they find you.

  1. Thank you for this. I echo many of the points made. It is important that we respect each other. This matter has been and is still being dealt with the individual concerned has been identified and others who were involved have been spoken to. The points made in this post are extremely relevant and the intention behind the posts can only be condemned.

    What you’ve written here about respecting others and the comments warning of logging out of accounts on public devices are arguably the most important lessons in all our middle school experience.
    For the record, those ‘I am gay’ posts were made by another user who found the account open on a public iPad . That is why I removed them.

    So, a timely reminder to:
    1. Log out of your accounts after opening on a public device. This goes for all accounts, not just Mushroom.
    2. Respect others and don’t post content under the alias of that other person.
    3. Think carefully before publishing potentially sensitive material online. Technically, this should probably be classified as a case of cyberbullying.
    4. As @ANNAyes points out, making fun of a group of people’s sexuality is not at all supportive. You can look up the stats, approximately 3% of our community is likely to be experiencing the complex feelings expressed in the ‘I am gay’ post, so please show them respect.

    Finally, I’m not convinced that a public-facing platform aiming to celebrate students’ literary efforts is the appropriate place for discussing sexuality. Perhaps if it was done within the context of a poem we studied it would be more appropriate. DISCUSS 🍄

  6. Big agreeeee to this blog post!!! Pranking other students is not something fun. It’s not just a joke for both Eric Yin and the LGBTQ+ community. You should really reflect on your own act. Moreover, I hope everyone who sees this post can take actions to change their own passwords (other mushroom users can easily access your account using the password Dr. T gave us) and stay safe!!!
