**My version of the ending starts after (and if) Grace boards the Hail Mary**
Log 1:
To be clear with, this isn’t my first day on my way back from Erid to Earth, and in fact this is the 67th sol I spent on the Hail Mary, and I had only started recording these logs mainly out of boredom, as I had already finished writing all those papers I planned to write on my first attempt to return to Earth way before on Erid—after all I did spend more than 20 years there and you can’t expect me to have done nothing except to teach a bunch of loud kids (eridians that are about 20 or so Earth years old). Anyways, the trip back would still take me at least 13 years (so when I arrive I’ll be at lest 61 years old, yay. [sarcasm detected]), and as far as I see, I plan to spend my next 600 or so sols on board browsing through the contents of it’s storage, which should take me some time as Stratt had decided to upload the entire contents of the whole internet on the ship before we left, even though this was a suicide mission in the first place and there obviously wouldn’t even be a chance of me reading it if I didn’t spend such an effort un-suiciding this mission. Actually, speaking of which, I am only recording this right now because I am slowing the ship down to do an EVA to check the fuel tanks and other parts of the ship that Rocky replaced with xenonite(as I said, I did spend a lot of effort attempting to un-suicide this) as I defiantly do not want to find out any problems with them when I get further away from Tau Ceti. Anyways, I got to go now.
Log 2:
Hello! I’m back again! After using up 4 sols to check all the parts that Rocky had replaced on the ship, I found that they were all working perfectly, and since that there’s no more Taumoeba on the Hail Mary, I should be fine with more that 15% of the entire ship made out of xenonite and god-knows-what those eridians used on my ship. But anyways, now that I know that both me and humanity are safe for now, nothing, as far as I see, could now get in the way of my hobbies, so to make things short, it’s time to have some fun!
Log 3:
Yup, it’s me again. And as far as I could see, it’s the 129th sol and I’m still feeling as bored as ever, because as it turned out, the way that they stored the entire internet on the Hail Mary was in multiple storage compartments, like USBs, but with my little incident near Adrian, 99.8675% of all the “internet”(as the operating system aboard the Hail Mary says) had been lost, due to the fact that like your typical USB, the data storage compartments are not designed to be violently shook, much less rattled like pop corn in at least 6 or so Gs, so most of the “internet” I had with me at the start is now permanently erased, so all I could do now is either to watch some boring 70’s soap opera, or to read every historical text ever scanned(Imagine reading nothing but all the texts Shakespeare ever wrote for 179 times in the remaining 538 sols I plan to stay awake), or to try out every application Microsoft had ever released…… Anyways, I guess that I would have to spend the rest of my time awake in complete boredom, watching “The young and the restless” over and over.
Log 4: I have good news and bad news: The good news is that I had just found out that Ilyukhina had kindly brought the entire set of the Harry Potter sequel and The Hobbit in one of her USBs (Don’t ask me why the heck a Russian person would bring books like these but still), which should keep me busy for at least 20 more sols. The bad news is that 20 or so sols is only a very small part of my 350 or so remaining sols, and that I am now absolutely sick of watching soap operas(why the hell would anyone want soap operas on a suicidal mission anyway?).
Log 5: I finally made my decision: I am going to spend 15 more sols awake, partly out of boredom, and partly because that When I’m in a coma, the Hail Mary would use up less energy for systems such as the main operating system(I only need it for the centrifuge when using some of the equipment and when using the equipment itself) and life support (The nanybot would be taking care of everything except for room temperature), meaning that more of the energy on the ship could be used to emit IR light to get the astrophage to produce more thrust, meaning that I would get home some 2 or so years earlier, but still, getting an extra 0.12 Gs or so may damage my body, but still, we’ll know about that later.
Log 6: This is my last day before my coma, and I just done 1 final check of all of the systems on the Hail Mary, especially the life support, as I do not want to end up like Yao or Ilyukhina, which also reminds me about how lonely I felt during the last 200 or so sols I spent here without Rocky. But still, if I survive the trip home, Erid would’ve figured out how morse code works from the copy of Wikipedia I gave them, and I might as well spent the remaining 30 years or so of my life(that is if I was even luckier, as my bones are now as frail as someone 20 years older than me due to being in a high gravity environment like Erid) talking one final time to Rocky. Anyway, I am trying not to worry too much about the coma ahead of me.
Log 7: This is Dr. Ryland Grace speaking, and is only an audio message as all unnecessary systems including the recording system had gone offline due to the initiating of the coma initiative sequence, and before my audio also ends, once again I do hope that I would survive the journey, and that nothing with the navigation system goes wrong as I had reprogramed it so it follows the sun’s IR signature, like the beetles, so that it would navigate the Hail Mary to somewhere near the solar system and slow down, and after that, the Nanybot would wake me up, and I would have to spend about 200 more sols or so slowing down and reaching the orbit of Ear—–
