“In Flanders fields”is a poem by John Mccrae (1872-1981) Born in Guelph, Ontario, a Canadian poet, soldier, and physician, this poem is written in a perspective of dead peoples, and also have the poppies, which symbols death, at the field and restate it in the end of the poem, connecting the whole poem together.
The first stanza has a limerick (AABBA) and the first two lines had a alliteration, which “in” and “between”rhymes, and it states poppies and crosses in the first two lines, which shows that this should be graveyard and gave a foreshadowing to the poem, also, “that mark our place” better state that the speaker in this poem is a dead peoples. “The larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below” is a symbol of beauty and happiness is been covered by horrible wars.
In the second stanza, the author states that there are the dead people in the first line but the speaker in the poem start describing the days they are alive, “we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow”, the line here shows that they live a short life because the author put sunset right after sunrise, which symbolize short life, in the last line of this stanza,it said “in Flanders fields” which also repeats in the last stanza.
In the last stanza, there is a repetition of “In Flanders fields” at the last line, and the second last line is very good to my opinion, so poppies symbolize death, but they still couldn’t sleep because they hate war and want it to be gone, they don’t want anymore people end up like them, and the torch in the third line of this stanza symbolized many things, like hope, kindness, happiness and revaluation, it depends what perspective your standing on when your reading this poem.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
try again you will succeed one day(OFCOURSE).
How’s this help the analysis?
egg man you(DEFINITELY) got this.
Hey, we’re getting more sophistication and detail 👍 👍
I particularly like “describing the days they are alive, “we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow”, the line here shows that they live a short life because the author put sunset right after sunrise, which symbolize short life” – this is the sort of analysis you’ll need to get good marks in the exam 👍 👍
Note that this: “this poem is written in a perspective of …”
Should be: this poem is written from the perspective of …
Remove the not from the title
I didn’t have the right to do that now, maybe a week later………
