This new way of Seminar disscussions was brought up by Dr. Terrett, it was a total new way of how disscussions occur. We were to form four groups of four (that is: 3people+1leader). Since this new way was still in testing-stage, it could be the last time to participate in it, that’s why I raised my hand to become a leader.
In all,the whole seminar went okay. As a leader, I graded people’s statements to the questions on the board, after eight minuites, they move to another group. One thing is that I found it a bit difficult to grade people and think of points myself, so I recommend leaders to ONLY do the grading next time(or perhaps it’s just me). Another thing is that every group of people failed to finish all the questions. This was because ,eventually, the conversation goes off topic,(for example, the debate about :”you could walk to Rome”) which is mainly my fault since I should probably control the frequency everyone speaks.
Personally, I encourage this new method, because I noticed that the ones who were rather introverted spoke very much more than they did in the traditional seminars. Another benefit is, apart from the old method, the new one requires people to navigate from group to group taking perspectives and new ideas they have disscussed in their previous groups to their current groups, resulting with more creative and debatable opinions.
In conclution, this new method proved to be admissible, by this, I do not mean total elimination for the old seminar method, because I think we should still give it credit for being the original one, plus, some topics are better off disscussed by class than by group. To balance this, we could have future seminars voted out, either grouped or by class.
