My recent trip from Shanghai to Sydney was filled with amazing food discoveries, and I’d love to share my honest food recommendations with you today — what you should definitely try, and what you’d better skip!
I landed in Sydney at around 1 pm on my first day, then checked into my hotel in Chatswood. For dinner, I grabbed a quick meal at KFC. The next morning, I headed to Coles to pick up breakfast, and I found some incredible chocolate chip cookies🍪.
They were perfectly crunchy, though a little sweet. Dipping them in milk makes them taste even better.
I also bought sour cream‑flavored chips from the brand Sunbites,

which are super popular online back in China. They tasted great, but in my personal opinion, the chips were a bit hard. They would be more enjoyable if they were a little softer, but their unique texture is definitely one of the brand’s highlights. I also want to give a strong warning: do not buy Choc Yogo & M&M’s yoghurt! I could barely taste any yoghurt flavor at all, only the M&M’s tasted decent. If you’re looking for good yoghurt, Gippsland is a far better choice.

On the second day, I visited China Town and tried Yang Guofu Spicy Hot Pot! It’s a build‑your‑own meal, so you can pick exactly what you want to eat. The beef balls are not recommended, but the chicken cartilage and rice cake (the cheese filling in the rice cake is particularly delicious( If you like to eat cheese, you must add the rice cake to your meal!) You can choose the soup base according to your personal taste. I chose the classic spicy flavor (I think?) My friend’s chicken soup base is also very good. Seasoning such as sesame sauce can be added by yourself at the nearby small ingredient counter.
After the hot pot, I visited a delicious dessert shop. I can’t remember its exact name🌚, but you can easily find it by walking straight down the street after Yang Guofu. I bought this real good cheesecake and chocolate crème brûlée. Overall, everything suited my taste perfectly. The cheesecake was light and not cloyingly sweet at all, and the chocolate drink was just right too, neither too sweet nor too bitter, it has a perfectly balanced sweetness.
The next day, I went to An Viet, a Vietnamese restaurant in Chatswood, located at 370 Anderson Street, Chatswood NSW 2067.
I ordered the “Combination Beef pho”, and it was perfect.
The portion size of beef was generous, the broth was rich and well‑balanced, not too salty or bland, the small size was enough. For snacks I would recommend Crab Nem,

the inside is stuffed with vermicelli noodles and minced meat, wrapped in a thin, crispy fried tofu‑skin‑like layer, very crunchy and flavourful! I wouldn’t recommend the fried banana though, it might just be my personal taste, but I couldn’t get past the sweetness and filling texture.

The overall price for the meals in this restaurant is also pretty cheap the beef pho only cost 11.9AUD. Also, if you leave a tip, they’ll give you a discount voucher so you can use it it you come again next time (PS:this might be the best restaurant in my Sydney trip)
