Seminar reflection 4

Um yeah we had lots of seminars and this one is probably the worst one I’ve had. (Only according to my performance) Firstly, I didn’t have many terms to speak at the start; I was always the last one to speak, and my points were just the same as others’. So I couldn’t get much middle or high. I didn’t have time to come up with an absolutely perfect idea to contribute in just 2-3 minutes, so sorry. My score is a 4 and a 6 so it’s not bad but not as good as before. Also, I don’t think we finished the seminar, we just cut it down cuz we need to do the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” test. I thought I still have time to speak next class but it’s suddenly over and nobody told me this, which is another reason I didn’t get a good score.
The leaders were good, though Rhett wasn’t speaking much. The questions are well organized and worth discussing. We talked about the cultures that shock us, such as the rules in Islamic culture that require women to cover their hair and bodies, the rule that shoes are not allowed in certain places in Thailand, and the respectful terms used for elders in China. We eventually agreed that we should not change these cultures, even if they were bad. Cuz you need to be powerful enough to change one, like colonize or become the government. Also, we discussed the importance of maintaining one’s original culture when immigrating to another country. There are also some discussions about religious purposes added, but sadly I can’t remember.

I almost forgot the whole seminar thread, so I will just say what I remember. I learned that respecting cultures by leaving them alone is a pretty good idea, and keeping cultural diversity in countries is crucial.
