About The Globe Theatre

The Globe Theatre was a famous round, wooden playhouse in London where William Shakespeare’s plays were performed over 400 years ago. It was open to the sky in the middle, so plays happened in the afternoon when it was sunny. The stage stuck out into the crowd, so the audience felt very close to the action. People from all different jobs and lives came to watch. Sadly, the original Globe burned down in 1613 when a stage cannon accident set the roof on fire! It was later rebuilt, and a modern version stands in London today.
