A wonderful class discussion———‘Why travel’ seminar reflection

On May 6th, we had a class discussion about why travel, the discussion question was based on travel stories and quotes, in which students acquired inspiration. We mainly discussed about those quotes by master and famous writers.

No, No, No. too short, Leo hates arid texts, this was an amazing seminar!

So, I should wrote a lot about it.

In this seminar, we had discussed about the purpose of travelling, why is Maktub so important in Santiago’s journey in the Alchemist, etc. I’ve also discovered two heroic figures in this seminar: Daniel and Joshua, they were always sharing their views eagerly and show their profound understanding in the quotes and the travel stories.

I’m the biggest Mr. Unlucky in this seminar, I have a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot share, unfortunately, I’m the seminar leader, which means I can’t share my florid views with U. did anybody saw my facial experssion during the seminar? :O:O:O:U:U:{:{:(

Leo’s idea about travel:

Why travel? that’s because travelling around can broaden your horizon! The persion we led a ‘homely’ life can’t learn anything, even if his read a lot of books, he’s still dissatisfied, why? He wasn’t sailing on the Aegean sea, dreaming of Odyssey’s tale, He didn’t have a talk with the sandy wind in Sahel, whispering to the Alchemist, he didn’t went to the village of New Mexico, persice for the epic western hero, he didn’t even go to the suburb of London, looking up the ether of stars, wishing ‘Heart of gold’ to descend. What he read won’t came ture if he didn’t travel around, having a arduous expedition in Beowolf’s kingdom or the mountains in west China, if he didn’t make the decision to step out from his stuffy little house, nothing in his book would came close to him. he learned nothing but the fancy tour guide (books), he forgets to have a real tour around the place he nourished.

What if ‘I’ died on the way?

You don’t need insurance, that’s only for Mr. Unlucky, think about this: your wonderful experience is considered to be you insurance, life isn’t immortal, you would die one day, everybody would end up like this:

? old and ! die one day. don’t fear about dying during your trip,  just as Daniel said: ‘Every body would die one day, so why did you fear dying on the way?’ will you stop travelling if you feel the Death was threatening you? Then what’s the purpose of living on the plant earth if you would die one day?

We still had a lot of time to see the sceneries we haven’t seen yet, we still have time to look up the star, and make a wish. A wish that broughts you to anywhere you want, a wish that brought you to some where really far. Some where your dreams would come true.

The class discussion was successful (DAN and JOSH were the best!!!)

I’m really a bad listener, I cut in several times and interrupted the students’ speak, next time I would follow this principle: first listen, than express:)

But, I really want to participate!

Now I have two solutions:

a. Maybe I shouldn’t undertake the seminar learner’s job, I should join the discussion, airing my view like a machine gun.

b. Let’s coin a new seminar: The seminar leader could express their feeling and air their view at the end of each questions.

  1. Very interesting and unique way of approaching the reflecting, very enthusiastic. However, the format of your reflection seems unorganized, and may give readers unnecessary confusion. Great contemplations with the topic, and it is very unfortunate that you didn’t get much opportunities as you were the host during the seminar. I believe that if you had a chance on sharing during the seminar, you would definitely have great contribution to it, and thank you for holding your ideas in.

  2. I like how you make allusions to other texts we have studied 🙂

In fact, the seminar leaders can and should join in the discussion. You and your partner were very altruistic in forfeiting your speaking time so others had more chances to speak. The goal of the leader is primarily to get other students to participate, but that doesn’t mean you cannot make join in yourself, just have to be careful not to dominate 😉

  3. Thanks for writing a few early comments and replies to comments. This has allowed me to tidy up the comments area a bit 🙂
While I’m here, I suggest Leo check his spelling and punctuation. For example, what does “? and !” mean? And what’s “plant earth”?
