When in Rome, we do as the Romans do

When in Rome, we do as the Romans do this is a regularly used term when we travel. Each country has its culture and traditions. Travelers often face culture shock when visiting other nations due to the sometimes stark contrasts in habits and behavior across different countries. However, for some people, that’s exactly why to travel.

We should respect foreign ways of doing except it is harming ourselves. Most of the time people have their reasons for doing so such as Geography, Religion, and value. For example, people in Africa and Asia eat insects because there are a lot of insects in their area and it hurts their harvest and these insects give a lot of nutrition to the human body. This might be a culture shock for Western people but it doesn’t harm humans in any way so we should respect them.

What if the foreign ways of doing things cause harm? If the harm includes moral and ethical issues which are important values accepted by most of the countries we can try to change it. However, the possibility is very small that something changes because you are only one single person. It is hard for one person to change things. Additionally in their country or culture this in our perspective harm is normalized over there. If it is normalized it mostly means that that is not considered as harm.

If we try to change it and people are getting offendet then I would stop except it is a lifesaving issue. People in that country have their reasons to be offended and as travelers, we should respect their way of thinking as these values have been passed over generations and there should be a particular meaning behind it.

Somehow I do think if it is an extremely harmful issue most travelers would recognize it and with the power of a group it is possible to change it. Visitors do not have the responsibility to help them as they are travelling not there to solve other countries’ problems. However, travelers can give local people a third perspective because most of the people don’t realize that their culture includes harming traditions because they already adapted to that environment and always grew up like that.

In conclusion We should When in Rome, we do as the Romans do when it doesn’t cause extreme harm.

    • That’s fine. What you have written is appropriate. Before I give you a grade, could you try separating this into paragraphs so it is easier to read and a bit more organised? Also, check this carefully: “people are getting offenders”
