This is a mushroom
It had a white skin that seemed to break easily, and it stood in the wet land beside the roots, leaning slightly.
Next to the mushroom was a young man curled up in a very wired position, dressed in adventure clothes and his packages. With some smoke and scorch on the ends of his hair, apparently he was killed by electric shock.
No one can remember how many years have passed since their normal life on the earth. After the disappearance of the Earth’s magnetic field, species have faced the one of the largest changes, not only physical changes, they are surprisingly infectious. Often aggressive and irrational. It is obvious that every human will die gradually.
The last group of surviving humans formed a society, and “judges” appeared to study and judge whether each human or species was a mutant species. Whether it was possible to violate the last surviving humans. This young man was one of many people who were innocent of even the slightest suspicion of mutation. Anyway, a lot of people died, but the mutant species struck a balance with humanity as a whole. Because the “judges” are killing too much.
The mushroom looked at the body, saw the opportunity, extended the hidden tentacles, the mushroom became very large in a second, those tentacles quickly covered the human body, and close together, swallowing. get into the human body.
When things calmed down again, the human, still dressed in a adventure suit and package, became full of life again.
But this time there was something strange in his eyes, probably because the soul in his body was actually a mushroom. This mushroom has started to study this human brain structure, and it’s trying to think.
It, which mean this mushroom has been living here for a long time, and the reason why it has not been killed by the judge at present, is that humans are now only familiar with the signs and characteristics of mutated animals and plants, and mushrooms are fungi. Humans haven’t understand the features of mutated fungi yet. thinking of this, the mushroom smiled.
This is a genius learning! He had figured out what was fluke!
Although it has not been discovered by humans. One day it will be danger. So before that, The mushroom began to practice walking use this human body. Its were completely out of control at first
“The muscles of the human limbs are so difficult to control, I never had those muscles!”
It also discovered that humans have a — unknonw — place because there are no mirrors, so the mushroom doesn’t know that it has a face. It only felt that its Angle of view (its eyes) did not know where it was fixed. It touched the place where its eyes were fixed with the upper part of its limbs.
“?”
It was an really rounded shape with a very rough and unsmooth surface, and there are things like grass growing on it.
The mushroom was afraid and decided to stop exploring.
After some times, the mushroom finally learned how to take big step forward. He thought he had to explore, and now he acually looks like a human, he shouldn’t be detected. So maybe he would get into the human society, just because he wants to explore something new.
Out of the forest, the last human communication is on the other side of the forest. Here has long been abandoned, the mushroom saw a large number of ruins, here was once satisfied human curiosity, through exploration and evolution, to find a happy home. Today’s ruins are also the result of tens of thousands of years of human exploration of the world.
If the mushroom had a human mind, surely a voice would ask it, “so why trave?”
Unfortunately, it won’t know the answer either, it’s just curious about its new body and newly acquired mobility.
Reminds me a bit of ‘The Last of Us’ (computer game and TV show).
I feel I should give you a point for building a story about a mushroom 🙂
I am also quite impressed how you managed to get a mushroom emoji into your title! That’s cool!
This is an interesting spin on the ‘zombie apocalypse’ genre because you are writing from the perspective of the mushroom that has infected its human host. Usually such stories are written from the human survivor perspective so this is certainly attractive for the reader. I would like to read more about the mushroom’s experiences as it navigates the world of its human host, so let me know if you ever publish a novel in the future 😉
