Shakespeare can be funny

I read Act III Scene I of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and it is funny. It is obviously silly with Bottom’s head getting turned into an ass but the punning and situation that surrounds that are also funny.

I also read The Tempest Act II Scene II, which is also a comedic situation. Trinculo and Stephano mistake Caliban for some kind of fish monster. Then Caliban mistakes the drunken Stephano for a god because his wine is so good. As well as being entertaining, this scene also provokes thinking about the colonial attitudes of the Europeans and their relationship with the local peoples.
