1. Your performance in the seminar
I scored 7 . However, I did not get high marks for my ideas. I shared relatively simple ideas in the first class. From the second class onward, I put forward more solid opinions. I mainly talked about matching pictures with text content on posters, key design details, how words help readers understand information, and the balance between commercial elements and local culture.
2. The leaders’ way of managing the seminar
The group leaders managed the discussion well. They set a 30-second speaking time limit for everyone and adjusted the speaking order at the start and end. The prepared PPT was well-made, with thoughtful and open-ended questions. Some questions required us to give opinions and support ideas with evidence. We also had interesting poster comparison activities. The whole discussion was creative and well-organized .
3. The content discussed
The seminar focused on commercial travel poster design. We compared three self-made travel posters and talked about several key design rules.
First, we discussed color matching. A good poster should use no more than three colors with clear contrast, avoiding messy visual effects and they also need to fit the poster background.
Next, we talked about text design. We can use bold fonts or different fonts to highlight key information. Font styles should be easy to read while keeping unique features, and suit target audiences and travel themes.
We also analyzed picture selection. Pictures need to match the poster theme and emotional tone. Real and relevant images are preferred instead of random stock photos. The colors and light in pictures also needs express core meanings. Clear visual focus like bold words and bright colors can easily catch people’s attention, and different colors bring different feelings, such as yellow standing for joy.
Then we studied the influence of words. Proper word choice can change people’s fixed impressions of a place. Poetic language creates artistic feelings. Meanwhile, we should not over-beautify descriptions. Unrealistic expressions will raise people’s expectations and leave bad impressions when expectations fail to be true .
We also talked about balancing commercial value and local culture. We need to respect local culture and avoid excessive commercialization. Highlighting cultural features helps posters stand out from common commercial designs.
In the end, we compared the importance of pictures and words. Pictures quickly attract viewers and create atmosphere, while texts deliver practical information and help people make decisions.
It’s good 🤓👍
