Seminar 3 Reflection

The seminar on what makes a good blog post was eye-opening for me as someone who enjoys writing but doesn’t always know how to make posts engaging. The presenters Kitty and Vinci explained the difference between a forgettable post and one that grabs attention– it often comes down to a few key elements that work together to create quality content.

Below are some of the most important lessons/aspects that we should include in an interesting blog post:

  • First impressions. The title and opening lines should act like a welcome mat for readers and be eye-catching enough– since they determine whether people will keep reading or click away. The presenters compared different types of headings and let us choose which one we’d prefer opening, and it was then when I realized I’ve been writing vague titles when I should be crafting ones that spark curiosity or promise value.
  • Organization and readability. Long, dense paragraphs might work for school essays, but online readers want content that’s easy and quick to digest. The seminar emphasized techniques like using white space effectively, breaking up text with subheadings, etc. I hadn’t considered how much these formatting choices affect whether people actually finish reading a post. I guess I should add more space in between.

Is this enough?

Just kidding😈Moving on:

  • Emphasis on providing real value to readers. A good blog post isn’t just about the writer expressing themselves– it needs to offer something useful, whether that’s information, experience, entertainment, or a fresh perspective. The presenter encouraged us to always consider what the reader gains from our writing and the purpose of the blog. This has me thinking differently about how I approach topics and structure my content.

This seminar has helped me realize that good blogging is both an art and a skill that can be developed. I’m grateful for the practical advice from the seminar and excited to put it into practice in my future writing.

(Sorry Dr. Terrett I thought Tuesday 10p.m was the DDL😭I was busy working on a competition on the weekend so I barely had time to catch up😭Please don’t give me a 0😭)
