Reflection on Seminar 2
During Seminar 2, I have made significant improvements compared to the first time. In the first seminar, I was mostly inactive, spending my time on sleeping and not participating. However, in Seminar 2, I made an effort to speak and engage in the discussion. Despite this progress, there are still place where I can improve.
First, I noticed that I did not speak as much as I could have. This hesitation was due to my uncofident on my speaking abilities. I was afraid that my classemate might not understand what I was trying to say. This fear of not being understood mskr me back from contributing more actively to the discussion.
On a positive, there were some things I did well in the seminar. Although I didn’t speak frequently, I did manage to share some of my thoughts. The points I raised are convience because I supported them with substantial evidence. For example, I used the issue of female genital mutilation to reinforce my argument that when certain cultural practices are harmful, efforts should be made to change them. This example highlighted the importance of advocating for human rights and demonstrated the strength of my perspective.
Moreover, there are still some things I want to say about whether we should change a culture when we find it to be harmful. I believe that we change harmful cultural. It is true that changing a culture can be challenging, especially since cultural traditions may have been in place for hundreds or even thousands of years. However, if a cultural is harmful, it is essential to advocate for change. It might be a small change or even little change, we still have to try.
Moving forward, I aim to overcome my fear of speaking by practicing and improving my communication skills. I also plan to prepare more thoroughly for future seminars, so I feel more confident in sharing my ideas. By doing so, I hope I am able to speak more during the discussion.
In conclusion, while I have made a better progress since the first seminar, there is still room for improvement. By focusing on enhancing my speaking skills and building my confidence, I am believe that I will perform even better in future seminars.
Good work! That is a solid description of the seminar and your participatory role. I remember you made good points using your FGM example as supporting evidence and was disappointed that nobody else picked up on it. I wonder if it is a maturity issue or maybe other students don’t know about it. Well, I suppose we must acknowledge that it is a difficult topic to discuss in class so I can understand that others didn’t develop the idea, but your points were definitely worthy of more discussion.
