Seminar 2 reflection!

In the second seminar, we talked about if we went to another country should we adapt to that coutries culture, should we change the foriegn ways from a foreign country, and many catagories from the culture shock section, and also dark tourism. Compared to the last seminar, i have improved alot on my communication skills, and also on how i expressed my ideas. I made few points on the culture shock and foreign cultures part. I will write down my perspectives about these points and also some other ideas from my classmates that i really like.

i think If we went to another country we should try to adapt to that countries culture. Adapting to a new culture can be a challenging but rewarding experienceSeeing that we are the foriegners of that country, we should respect and at least try and adapt to their culture. For example, in india they consider cows as a sacred animal, so indian people are not alowed to eat beef.  If we go to india not eating beef is a way of respecting their culture and also a way of not insulting the indian people. One very important piece of advice that connects to this idea, ” When in Rome, act like the romans.” When we are in a foreign country, we should be culture appropriate, even if we find that this foreign culture very shocking and very different to our culture.

Another point i find interesting is, should we change the foreign ways if its harmful? or should we respect it. I think whether the foreign ways is harmful or not is based on your own perspective. People should not try and change things just because they think its wrong or harmful. However if the harm of this culture is starting wars or conflicts, than i think we should considere to beautify the culture. For the whether its based on your own perspective part, there is a very good example for it. In the early ages, different countrys had different beliefs and religions. The country who had the majority of people who believed in a specific religion thought that all the other religions were bad. So they started war and killed thousands of people, just because they thought the other religions were harmful.

These are my few points on these questions, and my reflection on how much i improved in this seminar.
