Meta Reflection Seminar
I and was one of the last Leaders of the Seminars in Grade 8. This one is focused on one of the biggest range of topics. A reflection on the entirety of middle school. Dr Terret suggested that it would be incredibly emotional but that turned out not to be the case as I put some negative questions near the end.
We stared the discussion on Friday 5th period, the first question was a simple one, I purposely left a lot of room for different ideas. “What is your single proudest moment?” This sparked quite some engagement quite a a lot of people got themselves involved. It was quite an open question not really restricted by many things. More than 2/3 of the class had their first clauses and was quite a good opening question. Although we started off slow, there was a point where I thought I had to move on already then after a few minutes I couldn’t get the chance to move on.
Then we talked about a question that I’m very proud for coming up with. “Which IB learner Profile do you think represents you the best?” Our first answer was a sarcastic one from Nuolin, she said that she was caring and much of the class found that funny. Then we had quite a few interesting responses about all types of Learner Profiles. But most of the answers were only backed up with one scenario. I personally believe that everyone was fitting for every learner profile.
“Which Teacher or Friend has helped you the most with your middle school journey.” This was a question on gratitude to respect and acknowledge the people who have been building you up. I remember Tania talked about her journey with Jessie in ELL which wasn’t something that happened everyday. Then there was some obsequious action going on. Although Dr Terret is an amazing teacher =)
Then after the weekend, we moved onto some more negative topics. But as they all say, “hate brings people together” -no one. I raised some questions that lead to constructive advice. Such as maybe changing or tweaking some of the policies such as canteen or phones. Every had quite some fun and I believe actually improved their reasoning abilities and logic. Some individuals such as Serena had to find some unconventional ways to draw connections.
In summary this debate was one to conclude the year and middle school, and is surely one to remember. Though was not a rollercoaster of emotions unlike Dr Terret predicted.
“This is so Lame” –Edgar
Quite a few typos here – otherwise a clear summary of our (less emotional than anticipated) final seminar.
