Kaisendon-two worlds of ice and fire

ps. Kaisendon is basically a rice bowl filled with raw seafood in Japanese terms

About 1 month ago while I was traveling, I walked down a quiet street in the city of Kawagoe, a city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, located to the northwest of Tokyo. I was hungry at the time and was just looking for something to eat. It’s a hot day, and I am almost on fire 🔥, that’s when I smelled something delicious coming from a small shop. It looked simple but promising, so I walked in.

There was a staircase leading to the second floor, and I followed it up. A few people were sitting at tables, enjoying their food. I asked the waiter for the menu, and pointed to ones that looked delicious. It had soup, rice, and some raw seafood.

About five minutes later, the food came. The first thing I noticed was the mix of temperatures, so called “two worlds of ice and fire” the miso soup was very hot and comforting, but the rice bowl next to it was cold, with slices of raw tuna, mentaiko and other seafood on top. adding some soy sauce in the rice bowl made it taste even better. Everything about the rice bowl is amazing, seafood tastes so fresh so that it feels like it just got out from the sea a minute ago.

It was a quite strange but amazing feeling, hot soup in one hand, cold rice in the other. It kind of feels like summer and winter in the same bowl. ( see image )

I really miss Kaisendon. 🛬

btw price is way cheaper than in China.
