The myth of Nian Shou is a traditional Chinese folktale explaining why people have red clase and fire fireworks during New year. According to the legend, Nian was a fearsome beast with sharp horns and scales that lived in the mountains or under the sea. Every spring, on the eve of the new year, Nian would descend upon villages to devour crops, livestock, and even eat people. To protect themselves, the villagers try hard to find the solution, but they didn’t, one day, someone find a wise old man, which said that Nian feared loud noises, the color red, and bright lights. So, they began using firecrackers, hanging red lanterns, and pasting red couplets on their doors to scare the monster away. Over time, these practices evolved into the festive traditions of Chinese New Year, symbolizing the triumph of good fortune over evil and the welcoming of peace and prosperity.
relationship between sustainability:
people need to fire firework to protect them self,
and every year and every one doing that is BAD to environmentwhich is bad sustainability, well, I think so ………….
Good point about sustainability! You are showing how a less obviously related myth is indeed related to our theme – good work!
These are all Chinese myths, and there are all connections with our modern life.https://mushroom-scholars.org/group_page/hou-yi-shooting-the-suns-and-tangshan-hot-spring-nanjing-mythlocal-myths-by-joy/
