Exotic foods- pidan

Everyone is told to try everything once, and should be a risk-taker, one advise from my friends is, if you don’t try it, how can you know if you like it or not? My choice for exotic food is Pi dan. Pi dan is a traditional Chinese food. It’s an egg but it’s marinated into a see-through and black egg.

My first taste of the Pi dan was when I was in my grandparents house during Chinese New Year, I plate of black eggs were right in front of me. I stared at it for quite some time, because I have never seen an egg like this before, it was a whole new thing for me. My grandmother saw me staring at it, at told me to try it. I squinted me nose, and picked up one half of the Pi dan. The minute it went in my mouth, I could feel the jelly texture sinking on my teeth, and the disgusting and stinky smell that went straight up my brain. It was bad enough on its own, my parents even gave me Rice with soup and Pi dan, it was even worse.

This is the weirdest looking food I’ve ever seen and tasted, this was not a great experience.

  1. These pidan have certainly touched a cultural nerve – Logmeinu also wrote about them: https://mushroom-scholars.org/exotic-food-preserved-eggs/

I must say that your experience resonates with mine. I recall a very similar feeling when I first encountered them in a restaurant. Suffice it to say, it isn’t something I would ever order myself.

A few language errors for you to check. Given the date and the errors in combination, I suspect this may have been written in a hurry 🙄
