Exotic Food

Two years ago, when I went to New York, few friends of mine and I were strolling through the bustling street, when a seemingly inconspicuous restaurant appears in our sight. There we discovered this mysterious dish. The restaurant didn’t have things I was expecting like burgers, pizza and fried chicken, instead the dish we found is called the “blue cheese”. Unfortunately, it turned out not just being a taste experience but a spiritual challenge.

We approached the cheese curiously, only to see that it was covered with blue-green spots, like creepy faces, as if telling us something.

“Shall we try it out?” Gaberial proposed.

“Well, since we’re already here, why not give it a try?” I tried to calm myself down, though my heart involuntarily speeds up.

We ordered a piece of blue cheese and gave it a taste. The smell, how to put it, is like an indescribable stench rushing straight to the nasal cavity, and people can’t help covering their nose, disgusted. I tried to scoop a small piece with a spoon and put it in my mouth, immediately the taste impulses me.

It was like an alien dancing in my mouth, jumping and spinning, unpredictable. I tried to get rid of the smell with bread and biscuits, but failed the attempt-it doesn’t work! Sadly, the taste engraved on my tongue.

“This …… What does this smell like? And taste.” James couldn’t help but to ask me. He hasn’t taste the cheese yet.

“I don’t know, tastes good, wanna give it a try? You’ll love it, trust me.” I replied with an inscrutable smile, while still getting used to the strange taste.

“Hmm… No thank you.” Said James, hesitating.

Several of us looked at each other, and all laughed awkwardly. This blue cheese, indeed, made our trip to New York something different.

Unlike traditional cheese, blue cheese is known for its unique taste and appearance. Although it tastes absolutely terrible, it still has people fanatic about it, or even becoming a part of their life.

Sometimes, we are full of curiosity about the unknown, but after actually making the engagement, we might find that not all “new things” can lead to a good experience.

But that’s what makes travel so appealing. It gives us the opportunity to experience things that are not normally accessible and to observe different cultures and flavors. Even if we get surprised at times, it is an integral part of traveling.

Looking back now, trying the blue cheese was quite gross and uncomfortable to me, but it has also become an unforgettable memory of my trip. Whenever my friends and I get together to talk about traveling, I can’t help but mention the time we got completely defeated by a dish.

So, if you manage to get the opportunity to travel to the United States, you might as well try those seemingly “exotic” foods. Those are the things that you will never forget. Trust me.

  1. Effective writing 🙂

Good use of simile to describe the cheese. I can imagine what you experienced. That kind of cheese is quite common in the UK. My parents and sister love it!

Check this word: “impulses” (I think you might have used the wrong word there).
Also a couple of minor grammar errors surrounding verb tenses.
