A Rip In Mythology Chapter 1

1

Magnus Chase

It was raining. Not raining rain or cats and dogs. It was raining monsters. That’s when I was called out of my room in the Hotel Valhalla. I was told that everyone was needed in the dining room for an emergency. And I guess that emergency would be the monsters landing from nowhere. And I also saw a weird guy paratrooping in with the monsters. The only lucky thing is that the monsters didn’t have any parachutes.

I quickly put my armor on and brought Jack along. In case you don’t know, Jack is my sword. He’s alive, and about two years ago he made me give him a name, so I called him Jack.

I went to the Great Hall and saw that everyone was already gathered by the time. The weird guy parachuting while the monsters crash-landed was there introducing himself. He’s called Percy Jackson; I know him because he’s my cousin’s boyfriend. Also, he came from the world of the living. A round of applause for him—we usually don’t get visits from people like living people from the world of the living. Then he told us that the monsters were from then Greek world too—there were many types of monsters—I only heard a monster called a Lamborghini monster or something. He also said that only Greek weapons could kill them, “Greek weapons” meaning celestial bronze. Another round of applause for him—he knew how to kill those monsters. Then he gave everyone weapons that were made of celestial bronze, including arrows for archers and spears and swords and axes and even jars of an odd substance named Greek Fire. A third round of applause for him—he helped us kill the monsters.

So, we took the weapons and charged outside to kill the monsters. It was harder than I thought, because the monsters would hurt us, but our normal weapons couldn’t hurt them. At least Jack could fly everywhere and distract them.

We were winning but the tide turned. Their reinforcements arrived and we were overwhelmed, outnumbered at least twenty to one. And then Percy disappeared. He turned to thin air, and we were left to defend Valhalla on our own. It was hard. Really hard, but we fought bravely and finally, the monsters—overwhelmed us. I know you’d want to hear something like we killed them all or I made a noble sacrifice at this point, but, sorry to disappoint you, we lost the battle, and the monsters ran into Hotel Valhalla. They clambered onto the tree that connects the nine worlds and ran into every world. At least they will be finally defeated by others, but let’s get to the point.

Where were we? Oh yeah, the monsters ran into the nine worlds, and the ones that didn’t were unlucky. Percy came back with fifty more guys who all had celestial bronze weapons, and we finished the other monsters in no time. And now that Percy’s taught us, we know how to obtain large numbers of celestial bronze and make weapons out of them. So, we have expanded our armory now, and that means we can fight more types of monsters now. Yay!

In the meantime, you should know that many things were happening at the same time but in different places. But that’s not important right now. At that time, we need to get Percy back to Midgard, or the human world, as you might call it.

  1. Interesting stuff! I like how you call the place Hotel Valhalla and mix in elements of different mythologies 🙂

Writing from the first person perspective of one of the Valhalla dead certainly adds an intriguing angle to your story 🙂

Note: There are a couple of typos in your third paragraph.
