The Interstellar Journey Journal #79: Us and the Galphata

Editor’s note: This Journal was written by a Rossian and was translated into English to increase the friendship between the two civilizations. Due to this, many traditions, aspects, or ethics might be different.

There they are, again.

The Galphata(“Humans” in their language) have an intelligence of around 39-52 GWR1 and an average lifespan of 2700 Rossian years. They appear to have two light sensors, two sound sensors, and another two sensors for chemicals, all on a part named “head” on top of them. The “body”, below the head, contains mostly everything they need to survive. With the “body”, they can ingest, digest, excrete waste, and reproduce. On both sides of the body are the “arms”, which they use to make and operate tools; and below the “body” are the “legs”, which they use to transport themselves.

We never appreciated them here, at Ross. The first sign of their existence was an unexpected object2 that came from space and contained descriptions about them. We were curious about civilizations other than us then. Time proved us wrong as a few millennia later, they arrived through a wormhole found 2 lightyears away to sabotage us. They came with spaceships that could accelerate at 95% the speed of light and noticed that we had less intellect than them, so they tried to enslave us and colonize us, and we fought hard during the darkest days. At last, we negotiated, but at the cost of giving out 1/4 of our planet. This war is now known as “The Interstellar Battle of Shame”.

Although in the past century or so, our relationship has improved, most people(including me) still don’t respect them due to the terrible things they have done. That’s why I wanted to shoot them down when I saw the Galphata cargo ships passing our planet every few hours during my cannon-guarding3 shift.

  1. A skillfully managed piece from a different perspective! It starts well with your description of the humans from an alternative perspective and then you problematise the relationship and simultaneously propel your brief narrative into the future. You’ve communicated quite a lot in just a few short paragraphs – great stuff! Your use of references in conjunction with a chatty and opinionated tone is an interesting touch and you’ve added some kind of embedded box for the references at the end which is also quite interesting 🙂

Minor language point: “give out” maybe “surrendering” or “give up” would be better?
